DFC Company is a growing specialty contractor with three operating subsidiaries primarily involved in residential/commercial fence (Dakota Fence Company), highway signage and traffic control services (3D Specialties, Inc.), and commercial playground construction (Dakota Playground).  We provide services to home owners, commercial businesses and government entities.  Our dedicated employees (our “Blue Family”) work from four facilities throughout ND and provide construction services to five states with a much broader retail footprint. The Mechanic provides preventive and repair service (including DOT’s) for the rolling stock fleet and related non-mobile powered equipment at each branch.  The ideal candidate will possess the ability to diagnose and repair various types of construction equipment to ensure our crews make it to their customer installations on time, and can perform their work in an efficient and high quality manner.  Repairs gate operators and provides field services as required to meet the needs of the branch.

The principal job duties of this position are: 

  • Maintain a neat orderly shop
  • Organize and prioritize work orders to meet deadlines as per Foreman / Management
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate work schedule and progress Foreman / Management
  • Perform DOT related inspections & repairs
  • Diagnose and repair Small Engines gas and diesel 
  • Mounting and balancing tires
  • Knowledge in Hydraulic pumps 
  • Manage Tool and parts inventory to ensure we have parts and tools to keep equipment moving
  • Diagnose and repair electrical on trucks and trailers 
  • Repair gate operators as needed
  • Assist in other areas as needed - have basic knowledge of the yard layout – be aware of where DFC material, 3D material and tools are stored
  • Participate in biweekly tool box training (safety/training, workload/deadlines, product education/knowledge, etc.)
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervision

Experience and skill requirements:

  1. Organizational skills to maintain work orders and meet deadlines
  2. Ability to communicate effectively, with strong public relations skills
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  1. Experience with Microsoft office products, (i.e. Word/Excel)
