Operations Specialist


Dakota Fence, a growing specialty contractor primarily involved in residential/commercial fence, highway, and commercial playground construction as well as traffic control services, is seeking a full-time operations specialist for its Minot, North Dakota office.  The operations specialist will perform a variety of tasks to assure smooth workflow within Dakota Fence operations from pre-construction thru project management.  The successful candidate will have the demeanor to perform a wide variety of tasks on a daily basis while maintaining a positive attitude toward customers, suppliers and co-workers.

The principal job duties of this position are: 

  • Primary contact for customers (answer phone, assist walk-in customers, etc.)
  • Primary contact for walk-in retail traffic for fence materials, including completing invoices for retail sales of material, taking customer payments and assist customers in loading material
  • Primary contact for setting up 3D Rentals, Returns and billing
  • Job set-up, utility locates and job costing
  • Enter and process company payables while working within the company work pool system
  • Provide support to branch manager (backup for tasks such as drafting proposals, potential project entry in ERP system, underground utility locates etc.)
  • Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding – forward all documentation to corporate HR/Payroll
  • Physical document management
  • Manage office supplies
  • Special projects as needed 
  • Other tasks as defined by the Branch Manager


  • Working knowledge of construction processes
  • Strong technology and computer skills
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and computer networks
  • Organizational abilities to track multiple deadlines and reporting requirements
  • Self-motivation and desire to continually improve 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and have good public relations skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
