This position requires the ability to work closely with the Chief Operating Officer or its designee, other fence coordinators, administrative assistants and fence estimators to coordinate fence field crew personnel and jobs.

Dakota Fence is a growing, family-owned specialty contractor primarily involved in residential and commercial fence.  We provide services to home owners, commercial businesses and government entities.  Our dedicated team members (our Blue Family) work from four facilities throughout ND and provide construction services in five states. This position requires the ability to work closely with the Chief Operating Officer or its designee, other fence coordinators, administrative assistants and fence estimators to coordinate fence field crew personnel and jobs.  The Fence Coordinator will provide overall leadership direction to field crew personnel and a variety of jobs; including the management and procurement of materials, job quality and specifications, timeliness, safety, as well as mentoring and training field crew personnel.  This position requires the ability to meet company objectives as well as the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in a fast paced ever-changing environment; remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism, sense of urgency, ability to multi-task and confidentiality.  This position requires the aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively problem solve and bring together viable solutions.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as computer, are vital, with attention to detail equally important.  The Fence Coordinator is expected to manage personnel, foster a positive environment and motivate the Fargo team to be an efficient, productive, profitable and cohesive team.

The principal job duties of this position are:

  • Contacting customers to schedule fence installations
  • Ensure materials are on hand, timely ordered / available and pulled for the job and accurately reflected in job cost data
  • Develop and maintain appropriate construction staffing and equipment resources; coordinating the job in a manner that maximizes the Company’s profitability
  • Scheduling utility locates
  • Ensure construction transactions in computer systems are timely and accurate to meet the needs of percent complete accounting, including invoicing customers, work in process and collection of accounts receivable and retainage
  • Assist in handling customer service issues and warranty calls
  • Approve field personnel time cards on a daily basis
  • Train field personnel on how to correctly allocate time or any other time card issues
  • Work with estimators on change orders
  • Work with field crews to develop and share best practices that increase productivity and overall cost effectiveness
  • Routine site visits to monitor progress and develop corrective actions if necessary; attend preconstruction meetings
  • Handle walk-in fence retail sales; assisting in fence inventory management, ordering and fence yard management
  • Develop strong working relationships within the office and between other Dakota Fence branch locations
  • Promote a favorable image of Dakota Fence, internally and externally
  • This is a full-time, year round, salaried position.  In the non-construction season, the Fence Coordinator will assist in planning for the next construction season and also assisting in working across operating companies to generate additional revenue in the non-construction season, which may include calling on customers and making retail sales in fence, signs, playground and related items in each product category.

Experience and skill requirements:

  1. Natural self-starter with initiative, high energy level, hands on approach and work ethic
  2. A multi-tasker with the organizational abilities to track multiple job start and completion dates, paperwork and reporting requirements
  3. Work with a high sense of urgency and ability to manage interruptions
  4. Strong technical, organization, and leadership skills
  5. Strong knowledge of ERP systems & computer networks
  6. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office with particular emphasis on Excel
  7. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and have good public relations skills
  8. A positive demeanor with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  9. Well organized and attention to detail
  10. Strong desire to bring a team together and holding employees accountable
  11. Willingness to learn and implement continuous improvement methodologies
